main ideas- power and authority- Rome began as a republic, a government in which elected officials represent the people. Eventually, absolute rulers called emperors seized power and and expanded the empire. Empire buildings- At it's height, The Roman Empire touched three continents- Europe, Asia, and Africa. for several centuries, Rome brought peace and prosperity to it's empire before it's eventual collapse. Religious and ethical systems- Out of Judea rose a monotheistic or single god, religion known as christianity. Based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, it soon spread throughout Rome and beyond Time line of Rome- 509 BC-Rome becomes a republic 264 BC- First punic war begins 218 BC- In the second Punic war, Hannibal invades Italy 31 BC- Octavian defeats the forces of Antony and Cleopatra (bust of Cleopatra) AD 284- Diocletian becomes emperor of Rome AD 476- Western Roman Empire falls. Today in west civ we found out that Mr. Schick will not be here due to a surgery. He will be out for ten days and we meet this class eight out of the ten days. He has a paper set up so that we know what to do for the next eight days.  We got our test results back and I got an 88. We also got back our presentation grades and my group got an 88 as well. We also got a forty-nine out of fifty on our paper.

Today in West civ, We took a test on Ancient Greece. On the test there were a bunch of terms that we had to fill in. Another section was when a question started with "Hi there" which was kind of funny. Other terms on the test were terms like this... Alexander wanted to take over Persia. Alexander became king at 20. Darious III- King of Persia. murdered by his own soldiers. He always ran away from the battle. After he gets defeated by Alexander, he tries to make a peace treaty by giving Alexander 1/3 of their land. Alexander says no, keeps fighting and gets alllll of the Persian land. They named him Pharaoh of Egypt.  Hydaspses river- Alexander tried to fight them but they had a Calvary, phalanx, elephants, Indians people fought.  Tries to make Babylonia the capital. Died at 32.   People don't know how he died. After he died, The empire was split into three different sections. Helenistic culture- Culture spreading between India, Persia, and Egypt.

Greek culture blended with Egyptian, Persian, and Indian influences.  Koine- popular language that they people used to communicate because everyone knew it. Alexandria- Foremost center of the commerce. Philip died and Alexander took throne and was nicknamed Alexander the Greater his 13 years of accomplishments.  Philip was stabbed at his daughter's wedding.  Macedonia- cold climate, rough terrain  There were comedy's and tragedies. Alexander died at the age of 32 from a fever and and illness He planned to take over all of Persian. Alexander denied the offer of past the Euphrates river.  Alexander's victory over Gaugamela ended Persia's power.  Athens and Thebes joined forces to fight Philip.

Today in western Civilization we went over our notes and learned about two plays. Lysistrata- The females got sick and tired of the men fighting so they got together and told the men that they would not have "a relationship" with them if they continued to fight. They then stopped fighting Oedipus rex- An old woman told the king his son would kill him so he ordered one of his servants to kill the baby. The king tied his feet together and handed him to the servant. The servant couldn't do it so he left the baby on a hill. Another family found him and raised him.Once the baby grew older, he went into town, ran into the carriage that the king was in and killed the king. The boy ended up becoming king and started sleeping with his mom. The old women said "I told your father so!" The boy said "what?" and the women explained how she predicted fait. The boy connected the dots and soon everyone knew he killed his father and slept with his mom. They all mad...

Today in class, it was the last presentation. Athan, Elpris and Dylan made a rap about Ancient Greece and the whole class got it on video. Everyone in the class recorded the rap and airdropped it to people. They probably got the highest grade in the whole class. Will has a shadow named will and he goes to Concordia prep, plays baseball and knows Bevin Russ. I also had an ortho appointment today so I came in late and was very tired but this class woke me up so that was good. I missed math which I was happy about but I keep thinking about how I missed the review so I have a lot to study... We have a test on the last three sections of ancient Greece the day before spring break so next Friday.

Today I presented in West civ. I did my project on Greek Gods and Goddesses. I think I did very well and I want to my my grade! That painting took forever.After my group presented, Jackson and Quin presented. They did Greek Olympics and Jackson had videos of himself participating in those activities. After that group, Sydney and Brysen presented and did their project on Ancient Greek desserts. It tasted good. My group all did different Gods and Goddesses.  Athena is Zeus' daughter and she was born from her father's head. When she came out, she was in full armor and an adult. She is also Zeus' favorite daughter.
