Today In West Civ we learned about Greece and Homer. The temp. of Greece in the summer is around 80 degrees and the mid 40's in the winter. Mycenaeans influenced around 2000 B. They built a 20 foot wall to protect themselves from intruders. 1400 BC, Mycenaeans invade Greece and invaded Crete.  They then absorbed their cultures. Homer lived in the time of the "Dark Ages" and was blind. He was making his trip home and it should of taken two weeks. It took ten years. His beautiful wife who lived in a palace, was very hopeful that he would return and so other men tried to get her to marry then but she said "no".
Their writing disappeared after four hundred years.

On his trip, Poseidon was angry and had the waves send him to different islands. There, he told the people the stories of the iliad and the Odyssey. Then he would move on to the next island. the people helped each other remember it.

Etruscans- north central part.  (metalworkers, artists, architects) The Greeks had many colonies around the mediterranean sea. The Latins settled. Cloaca Maxima (largest ancient drain) which channeled water to the tiber. Lucius Tarquinias is is the final king of rome and he is proud of his accomplishments but he is a tyrant and got rude. The line says “no wonder they didn’t want any more kings” In the book it says that the new king seized power from his own dad (sextus). Then the lyrics say “Can this get any worse? Yes” This shows that Sextus tried to force himself upon Lucretia. She says no and Sextus threatens to kill her. The next line of the rap says “they turned around and ran that tyrant outta town / next thing you know, no kings no more…” This shows that the people rose up and kicked the whole family out of Rome, which is what the book says. Another line from the rap says “Hey, we got three governments rolled into one Patricians and plebeians havin’ some fun”. The book ...
