Blog #5

Today we had class and we continued taking notes on the Guns, Germs, and Steel video.  Mr. Shick made us whole grain toast and it was really good. Some of the ingredients were in the bread that started civilizations in other countries.  Only fourteen animals were able to be domesticated by the people. They were pigs, goats, horses, Bactrian Camel, Arabian Camel, Yacks, sheep, cows, donkey, water buffalo, llama, reindeer,,Mithons and Bali cattle. The Middle East is home to the best crops and Europe was home to thirteen out of fourteen of the helpful domestic animals.  The only one they didn't have were the llamas because they came from South America. The Tigris and Euphrates river run through to make the "Fertile Crescent" Gwar was an old civilization that is nine thousand years old. They figured out how to make plaster to keep the rain and bugs out of their home. They made plaster out of heated limestone and water.

The village of Draa emerged 11,500 years ago.  It is a community in the Middle East that occurred during the Stone Age. One vocal term is granary and this is where the grain was stored.  It was an oval shaped' mud wall building where they kept wheat and barley. The scarcity of food led the people to domesticate plants and animals.  Domesticating animals came about 2,500 years later. The scarcity of food led the people to live by the water and farm. domesticating in general means YOU CONTROL what plants or animals you keep/grow.  China grew a lot of rice, the Americas ( Central, South and North Americas) all grew corn, squash, and beans, Africa grows sorghum, millet, and yams, and New Guinea makes sago. Sago is Mal nutritious, a pain to store because it goes bad and is a pain to process. Animal waste fertilizes the plants and the plants feed the animals.

In class today. We went over a review of the of the video that the class watched the day I was absent. Mr. Shick then gave us a pop quiz about the first twenty minutes of the video.  We then went over the three blogs that are due for week one and the people who didn't do the blogs have time to do them in class. Mr. Shick referred it to a golf term "Mulligan" which means "do-over".  He told us that if we didn't have a composition book that is taped on the back, then we have to get one by next week because he will ask us to show him the notebook.  If we have the notebook then we will get points. We also had a shadow in class today and she is interested in art and theater. He graded the pop quizzes and rang the bell twice if we got a one-hundred.

Today I was absent because I woke up feeling dizzy and I almost passed out.

First class blog

In Western Civ today, it was our first time meeting so we went over the class rules and what we will be covering this year.  We will be covering from a couple thousand years before Christ to about the 1700's.  We will be learning about topics such as Mesopotamia, ancient greece, Ancient Roman Empire, the medieval times, reformation, and the renaissance.  We went over how we are not allowed to play video games at all before, during, or after class as it will result to an automatic detention. We also learned that our teacher is Mr. Shick and he has really cute dogs. We will also need to write a minimum of 150 word blogs every time class mets and every blog is due that night at midnight except Fridays.  Friday blogs are due at midnight on Saturday.  If we are absent we will still be required to write a blog and post it.  The prayer is on the top left side of the room.
